Episode 8 final

My eyes and mouth were wide opened as my mother said i was pregnant. I hadn’t slept with my husband since he came back. I didn’t want my mom to think something was wrong, so I told her I was taking a new drug that was causing the symptoms.

“Are you sure my daughter?”she asked in disbelief.

“Yes mom. Don’t you trust your daughter?” I asked.

“I’m sorry… I do,” she replied.

I stayed for a while. Then I rushed to the hospital. I met with the nurse at the lab. She took my blood and she asked me to wait for few minutes for the result.

I was praying so hard that the result would be negative. Few minutes later, the nurse walked up to me and handled over the paper to me. I was so anxious to know what it said, so I opened it immediately.

I was pregnant but not for my husband. I fell to the seat, thinking of what I would do next. I immediately thought of Arinze. He could have a solution.

I left the hospital and headed home. As I got home, my husband called me.

“Hello, Amanda where are you?” he asked.

“I am at home. Is anything wrong?” I asked.

“I just want to know. Are you feeling okay?” he asked suspiciously.

“I am fine. Later please.”

I ended the call. I don’t want him to think I have something to tell him. I went straight into Arinze’s room. He was on the bed.

“Arinze. I am pregnant!”

“What, really?” he asked, shocked.

“I don’t think it’s for your father..” I said.

“Meaning?”

I explained to him what happened the night of my birthday. I was so angry and wanted to bring the whole house down.

“Amanda… Amanda… Amanda. Where are you?” a voice called.

“Your father is back!” I was scared.

“Quickly… lets go and see what is wrong,” Arinze said.

“Yes my husband,” I replied moving backwards.

“Why didn’t you to tell me you were going to the hospital? Why didn’t you tell me you were feeling pregnant? Why?” he asked.

“I wanted to be sure. I said.

“You are a month pregnant right?” he asked.

“How you know? what you are saying?” I asked.

“I haven’t been around so how come you are pregnant?” he asked. He was visibly angry.

“Arinze, why did you get my wife pregnant? Are we now sharing her?” he asked, turning to Arinze, who just stared at him.

He then turned to face me. “After everything that I have done for you and your family, you should be loyal to me not going after my son! I must tell your father about this.”

He brought out his gun and pointed it at Arinze. saying he was disappointed in him and all. Arinze tried to explain himself but his father wasn’t believing anything he said.

I tired to talk to him but he refused.
It was a big crisis. I didn’t know what to do or say.

I hadn’t even completed my thought when I heard the gun shot. He had shot his son directly in the head. Everything happened so fast.
I screamed and cried. I was so scared. He killed his son and he could kill me too. But the next that happened was confusing. He picked up his phone and called the police, telling them his wife killed his only son. I was shocked and speechless.

I fell to the floor to beg with him but he refused to answer me.

The police van appeared in the compound minutes later. Some of the officers came into the house and arrested me.

“I didn’t kill him and you know,” Ikept saying, pleading with him.

I was taken to the station. I was sentenced to death for a crime I didn’t commit.

He sent message to my parents and they came and I told them everything. My father was in tears but I wasn’t even concerned about that. He had no right to cry.

“I begged you father. You see my life now. I would be killed in two days. Are you happy how?” I asked him.

It’s very unfortunate that my life was put in the hands of a destroyer for things that aren’t meaningful by the people who are meant to love and protect me. These things happen every day, in every place, I know. I had only heard and read about it but now I have it happening to me.

Parents should not put so much responsibilities on the shoulders of a minor. A minor isn’t meant to get married and forget about school for money or anything. I decided to tell my story before I die. We shouldn’t be carried away because of money. Obsession for money comes with a price.

My name is Amanda and this is my story.

The End.
